Panagiota Simou

Panagiota Simou studied German Literature and Philosophy in the University of Athens. Painting and Art History was a passion from a very early age; therefore she attended several Art lessons in Painters Atelier and Museums. Nowadays she is a Ph.D. candidate in the field of BioArt (‘Science and Philosophy in BioArt’) in the Department of Audio and Visual Arts in the Ionian University, cooperating with the Bioinformatics and Human Electrophysiology Laboratory on BioArt creations merging Painting and Science. Her academic and artistic interests mainly focus in the diffusion as well as the ethical and philosophical aspects of bioart and biotechnological issues like genetic engineering, hybrid organisms, clones, semi-living organisms, stem cells, quantum mechanics, nanotechnology, brain interaction, Transhumanism and Neo Humanity. In her latest artworks (oil on canvas), she converges Art with emergent scientific achievements like the quantum theory or the neurobiology. She has participated in the London Art Biennale 2015, the 1st Italian Biennale of Creativity 2014 and the Chianciano Art Museum Biennale 2013. She has also presented a solo exhibition of Science-in-Art oil paintings in the 1st World Congress on Geriatrics and Neurodegenerative Disease Research and in several other educational Art programs. She is also co-author of two Peer Reviewed Chapters in Collective Volumes: Artificial Humanoid for the Elderly People (2014) and Exploring Artificial Intelligence Utilizing BioArt (2013) in Springer AEMB and IFIP.
